Antique Indigo Egasuri Cotton

A rare indigo 'egasuri' cotton from the late 19th century. Kasuri is the Japanese term for ikat, and 'E' translates to picture or drawing. When these two words are combined, it is pronounced 'egasuri,' meaning kasuri-woven pictures. This piece features a tortoise and a 'kanji' character motif, both symbols of longevity.
