Antique Indigo Katazome Cotton with Crane and Tortoise

An antique indigo katazome cotton panel from the early 20th century, featuring a rare design of crane and tortoise motifs framed within chrysanthemum forms. The pattern is stencil-dyed using katazome techniques, with accents of softly faded red Bengala dye that add warmth and depth against the dark indigo ground.

Originally part of a futon cover, this piece shows minimal signs of use and retains its clarity of pattern and character. A beautiful example of traditional Japanese textile design, suitable for display, collection, or careful creative reuse.
