Antique Six-Panel Brown Hemp Mosquito Net Kaya
An antique six-panel hemp Kaya, mosquito net, likely dyed with kakishibu persimmon tannin, with old hand mends throughout. The edges and corners remained in original natural hemp colour.
Hand stitched from narrow hemp panels, this piece has a beautifully weathered texture with patching, small repairs and signs of long use. The hemp has softened considerably over time, giving it a supple drape uncommon for antique hemp textiles.
Originally used as a household mosquito net in rural Japan, this textile now lends itself beautifully as a wall hanging, room divider, curtain, or for other interior and textile projects.
