Antique Indigo Tsutsugaki Cotton Futon Cover
A large four-and-a-half panel indigo cotton futon cover from the late 19th century, dyed using the traditional tsutsugaki resist technique. Freehand-applied rice paste creates the bold design, featuring a prominent family crest with a stylised floral motif set within a kikko (tortoiseshell) hexagon. The indigo cotton is gently faded, the reverse still retains some cotton fluff typical of futon covers.
In good antique condition, with a couple of small mends, some subtle marks on the white areas and some small holes. Still strong and suitable for a range of repurposing projects.
