Antique Meisen Silk Kimono Fabric Sold By The Metre
Meisen Kimono started blooming during the Taisho period (1912-1926), featuring big, bold, and colourful designs inspired by Modernism and Art Deco. It became popular among young women in the early to mid-20th century.
Meisen silk, known for its crisp and supple texture, is a type of Japanese silk produced by weaving pre-dyed threads using the tie-and-resist ikat technique. It was primarily produced in the northern Kanto region, north of Tokyo.
This particular Meisen kimono with a camellia pattern is from Ashikaga in Tochigi Prefecture, dating back to the early 20th century. It has never been used and is in great condition.
