Vintage Boys' Ceremonial Kimono

A little boys' ceremonial kimono with a hand-painted auspicious motif featuring a dragon flying over Mt. Fuji with wild waves, dating from the mid to late 20th century.

This type of kimono was used at 'Omiyamairi'—a baby's first visit to a shrine. Traditionally, parents and families visit a shrine with their one-month-old baby to wish for their growth and health. The newborn baby is covered with the ceremonial kimono, not worn, which is why the bodice and sleeves are very long.

It would make a great wall art piece. To wear it, the length needs to be adjusted by properly tucking the waist and shoulder parts. The black colour is slightly faded overall, and there is a hole on the back, as shown in the last photo.
