Vintage Sakiori Weaving Yarn Ball Collection

A collection of vintage Japanese fabric yarn balls prepared from torn strips of old textiles, traditionally used for sakiori weaving. Sakiori is a historic Japanese rag-weaving technique in which worn kimono, futon covers, and other used cloth were cut into narrow strips and rewoven into new textiles for continued use.

These yarn balls are made from recycled predominantly cotton kimono fabrics in a variety of colours and patterns, each carrying signs of age, wear, and previous life. They were prepared as weaving material for a future textile.

The largest ball is approximately 11cm in diameter and the smallest approximately 5cm. Total weight for the set is approximately 600g.
